Description
This is just a simple print that you can clip onto the doors of a BYD Atto3 to protect the parts of the doors that are likely to hit a wall if you're parked close.
I guess if you printed enough of them, or scaled it on the long axis, you could protect the whole edge of the door, but… that wasn't my intention when I made them, and I wouldn't recommend it.
I printed in PETG (this brand) because it has some flex and reasonable temperature and UV stability… and the blue colour (more or less) matches the car - I wasn't overly concerned about appearance, only that it didn't “jump out” at you when looking at the car in a general sense. If you can't find a matching colour for your car, translucent PETG might be the go…?
I printed them “standing on their end” - the orientation of the layer lines works out better that way, and it's basically the only way they will print (without supports).
I just used the super draft mode (0.28mm layers) and it looks fine. You may want to use a brim just as a precaution to avoid the risk of them falling over mid-print.
It should be reasonably obvious which way they go when you fit the to the doors; in fact, they will only fit in one orientation. If you live in a cold climate, I'd recommend putting them in hot water (just from the tap, not boiling water from the kettle!) to warm them up a little before putting them on, just to give them a little extra flex.
They work well - I don't know how long they will last, but if they break it's only a few grams of plastic and I can print more.
