Function:
This upgrade was designed to improve the messy wiring after installing the CFS upgrade-kit on my K1 Max.
Designed using 3d-scans of the printer as reference.
The USB-Port gets moved to the back of the printer, a barrel-jack gets added to the printer for power-delivery to the CFS (so you don't need an external power-supply for the CFS) and I created a passthrough for the PTFE-tube from TPU to prevent kinking.
Additionally I created mounts for the buffer and for wiring.
Disclaimer:
This modification involves electrical components (24 V wiring). Use at your own risk. I am not responsible for any injury, damage, or other consequences resulting from its use or installation. If you are not qualified to work with electrical systems, do not attempt this modification.
Installation:
Preparation:
- Normally install the CFS upgrade-kit (don't glue the USB-support)
- Print the parts
Installation PTFE-guide:
- When looking at the inside of the printer there should be a round casting mark where the new ptfe-passthrough is placed. Drill it out at an angle (following the “flow” of the Bowden-tube like in my pictures (us either an 6.5mm or 7mm drill)
- Insert the bowden-pass-through from the inside, if it is too snug slightly enlarge the hole
- Guide the Bowden through the pass-through
Installation USB-mount:
- Open the bottom-panel of the printer
- Unscrew the front USB-port and clear the cable (remove old zip-ties and place new ones)
- Use the drilling-guide to get a rough estimation of where the holes will be → move existing cables away from this location
- Drill the holes with an 8mm drill and file it out to make the port fit
- Remove the plastic parts marked in orange on the picture to make the port fit
- Glue in the two small plastic pieces for mounting the USB-board
- Mount the USB-board with its original screws (easiest to screw at an angle) and tidy the cables with zip-ties
- Add the original USB-support from the outside (use the plugged in cable as a guide)
Installation barrel-jack:
- Mount the barrel jack to the printer (may vary depending on your specific jack used)
- Wire the jack to the PSU (use the free connectors and pay attention to the polarisation)
Installation buffer and wiring-guide:
- Mount the buffer_mount to the buffer with the two M3-screws
- Mount the assembly to the printer with VHB-tape
- Mount the wiring_guide the printer with VHB-tape
- Connect all cables and enjoy your tidy wiring!
BOM:
- all parts printed (ptfe_guide with TPU, rest PETG or ABS/ASA)
- 6.5/7mm, 8mm and 10mm drill bits
- M3*8-screws or similar screws suitable for plastic (used for mounting the buffer)
- Barrel-Jack connector 5.5*2.5 Female
- Wires from Barrel-Jack to PSU with crimping lugs
- Extension-cable with 5.5*2.5 Male on both ends (roughly 1m long)
- Zip-Tie or velcro-strip for wiring
- VHB-tape for mounting
