Description

A hand fan with the traditional Japanese seigaiha pattern (blue sea and waves), based on my Classic Hand Fan design.

This model can be printed in more than one color, even if you don't have a multi-color printer.

Fan size (length of the blade):

  • S - 14,5 cm
  • M - 19 cm

For more designs check out my Hand Fans Collection!

Printing advice
  • All the parts can be printed without support.

  • For a left-hand version, mirror all the blades and the front/back covers.

  • Colors: The fan from the pictures was printed in 2 colors by adding a “Color Change” step. Height will depend on your layer height settings:
    • Front Cover → ⬜
    • Blades 1-9 → ⬜ 🟦
    • Back Cover → ⬜ 🟦

  • Color gradient: The three different wave lines have a 0.2mm height difference. With some filaments, this will allow a color gradient as in the example. I used a color transmission test like the one by Glenn Brockett to get an idea before printing the whole fan.

  • For better results, make sure the printing seams are not on the sliding surface of the pin (see picture below). You can use the “Seam Painting” function to block/enforce the seam location.
Assembly instructions (see picture)
  1. Align all the blades, including the front and back covers.
  2. Insert the hinge rod
  3. Add the hinge caps

Enjoy! 🪭

Note: The fan will unfold more smoothly as you open and close it a few times.
