Description
Edit: Small update - I added a 70mm tall version that fills the 50mm base-plate. This would be 14ft tall and more imposing. It should also work better for printing on FDM making supports easier to remove and allowing for better details. Resin printing will still need some hollowing.
This model was a lot. Kinda riffing on some other recent models I used my mushrooms and skulls in here. I was trying to figure out how to add vines to this one and tried adding some curves manually and then decided to try converting duplicate edge loops into curves instead. This technique plus grabbing, pulling them to add some variation worked pretty well. Then I added skulls and then I added mushrooms. Doing all the booleans was kind of a pain then came trying to optimize it for print. The near finished model was over 1,000,000 (over 9000!) vertices and that's just too much. Remeshing removed too much detail so I tried doing decimates instead and then cleaning up the non-manifold geometry. Maybe I'll crack this process in the future but it was an ordeal today.
In the end I'm pretty happy with the result. I kinda wish I had more skull and mushroom variations (as much as I don't love the thought of having to boolean them all in afterwards).
For printing I've added a 3mf file for FDM which I'm using for my test print. It's not the fastest version but it should preserve detail. For resin this should be hollowed out using lychee slicer or Blueprint Studio. If I make an attempt for this one then I'll post the presupported / hollowed file as well. TBD.
If you like this model follow along - I'm working on a quest to make 1000 dnd models in 2025, I'm up to 647 with this model - you can follow my progress via my account here, Printables, Cults3d or see my weekly updates on Patreon here: https://www.patreon.com/c/Adamnant (as well as get codes for exclusive downloads on cults).
Aside from modelling I've built a website to help GMs / DMs find models for their DND campaigns here: https://gmbuddy.com/ - this website breaks down creatures by section including page references and counts needed then provides links to good models (mostly the legendary MZ4250's work). I've got quite a few campaign lists mostly completed and am working on creating models that don't exist - like this Violet Fungus Necrohulk from Dragon Delves: Before the Storm.
