Description
I wish all the first years the best of luck in their school careers. May you all be graced with the most exemplary pedagogues!
25 cm (9.8 in) version: print time approximately 4 - 5 h, 80g of filament
17 cm (6.7 in) version: print time approximately 2 h, 30g of filament
It's a bit tricky to get the settings right as I tried to get the best result with as little material as possible. It took me some tweaking with the settings in the slicer to get good results so I think you could save yourself some time and filament when you do as follows.
Preferably use “COLLAPSICONE 25cm PLA monochrome with settings.3mf” or the multicoloured and / or smaller version and work from these settings. Choose “Open as project” when prompted in PrusaSlicer to import them.
There should only be one perimeter wall over the whole height of the model (except for a small section of the widest part – I have made that thicker to improve stability). If it looks like this you're good to go.
If you have double walls like in the following screenshot you have to change your arachne settings.
If any issues come up, please feel free to contact me and I will help you as good as I can! Happy printing and a great start to the school year!
Added small version and good print instructions.
Updated the model with v21. Improved stability by adding brims on the bottom of the sections and the widest parts.
Wall thickness changed to .6mm, which is perfectly printable as a single wall with a .4 nozzle. Make sure your slicer doesn't mess this up as the printing time doubles with multiple walls. I'd recommend importing the “COLLAPSICONE collapsible school cone settings PLA monochrome.3mf” into your slicer and adapt these settings for your material. It took me a little to get my settings right, so I guess this would be the way to go.
If you want I've also included a multicolor version, with an easy filament switch at layer 40 or so. This means the oldschool way where the printer pauses and you have to change spools manually. If you have an MMU you have to figure this out by yourself as I don't own such fancy equipment.
I'm currently printing the third prototype, there will be some iterations over the next days. But the result is alright and I want to have it out asap, so you can print it on time. If you have some time left, I'd recommend you to be patient and wait for the improved versions.
The current version is a little brittle. As it only consists of one .4 mm wall you shouldn't fill it too heavy, especially if your layer adhesion is not the best they may disattach. I will add a .6 and .8 mm version soon.
I had troubles with under extrusion at the start points of the walls prints and got this under control by reducing the retraction length setting in prusa slicer to 1 mm.
If there's enough time I may make different sizes too.
