Description

After going the whole 9 yards with @AutoCode3D_1560544 ‘s TrackTwist system and @tntkillercody ’s Easy Print Socket Rail Sytem parts for my main toolbox I wanted a little socket organizer for my tool bag in my popup.

I LOVE the TrackTwist holder organizer (https://www.printables.com/model/680228-tracktwist-socket-holder-organizer-34-12-38-14-dri),but wanted something smaller for my tool bag. After not finding anything that had the same twist locking holders but more minimalist, I designed my own.

I also found out, after printing them, that the TrackTwist holders don't work well for cheap sockets without detents so I created a set of friction fit alternatives.

It should be easy to print parts for what suits your needs.

  • I had to design a second set of holders because, sadly, my cheap sockets don't have detent  holes and don't work well with the twist lock design. If your sockets don't have detents you will have better luck with my friction holders.
  • I have included a slightly smaller tree if the normal one fits too tightly. Honestly, a very quick sanding using 150 grit will cure the problem too.
  • PETG will be better than PLA for this.
  • There is no 4-way 3/8 holder. The 3/8 sockets wound up interfering in the 4-way version. I created the twist lock holders in Orca Slicer I did not feel like reworking everything for more space. Hopefully the 2-way or mixed holders will work for your needs
  • The Trees are long but will print diagonally on 220mm beds. You can glue the end holder on and cut the rest of the tree off. You can also scale in your slicer. This will make the finger hole a bit oval but that should not be an issue.

Printing notes:

  • PETG will be better than PLA which is potentially brittle and may loose holder springyness over time.
  • Other filaments will work well too and if you print those you know what you are doing.
  • I used a brim to keep the fine details of the holder prongs stuck down. YMMV.
  • I added tree test pieces for choosing the right tree version.
