Description
Alternative shell model for the Framework Laptop expansion cards.
I didn't like the official expansion card 3D model as it prints vertically, isn't fully enclosed, and didn't fit very securely in the expansion slots. So I made my own. Two versions are provided, one with an open top (ie. drawer style) and one with a lid that slides/snaps into place. The goal was to design a shell that maximizes the amount of internal space and can be easily customized.
Internal volume is approximately 29.7mm x 26.7mm x 5mm.
Optimized for printing with a 0.4mm nozzle with supports turned off. Turning on detect thin walls is also recommended, and print quality can be further increased by blocking seams on the outer facing edges.
The model was modeled with tight tolerances for a very snug fit, so a very highly tuned printer is required or else the enclosure won't fit/latch properly. Note that unlike the original expansion cards, the print orientation doesn't allow for a lip for ease of removal. Instead, a chamfer was left on the inside edge such that you can catch a fingernail on it to pull the module out.
Original design file is also provided to allow for easy modifications.
