Cinnamon Secrets

Hi hi, wonderful people!

Yes, it's time for more questionable food choices in printed form! Depending on where you are in the world, these might be cinnamon rolls or cinnamon scrolls, but either way these Cinnamon Secrets are designed to cleverly hide your valuable cylindrical items.

It might be surprising to hear that the toughest decision in this design was how exactly it would open. Initially, there was a lid of sorts underneath, but that made the whole thing much more complex, as the inside of the box effectively became suspended from the outer walls. I also contemplated the idea of slicing the whole top off and making that into a lid, but it seemed a shame to compromise the overall shape so obviously.

Having the inner part of the spiral thread into a cylindrical outer seemed like a worthy solution, but getting it to look natural, as if the outer was actually just the continuation of the spiral defied intuition somewhat - it ended up needing to be substantially thinner than the rest of the spiral in order to look natural.

Originally, the filling model just slotted into its groove, and the intention was for it to be glued in there, but I decided I just couldn't leave it that way, and so now there's a bolt on the underside of the lid that holds the icing in place.

Print Description

This is a pretty straightforward print! Nothing tricky here, all the parts that join together use threads with generous tolerances.

Print Dimensions

The main body of the model occupies 101mm x 101mm on the print bed and is 33mm tall.

Supports Needed?

Not at all!  Designed for straightforward printing!

Scalability

This one should scale fairly easily up or down!

Print Orientation

All parts print right-way-up, except for the bolt, which prints upside down.

Further Thoughts

That retro-styled dish that's in the photos is also included as a model! Inspired by vague childhood memories of old school crockery, it's intended to provide a sense of tradition and prestige in the way that only printed plastic dishes can :D
