Description

In my continuing quest to bring the most obscure props of Star Trek (original series,) I have done my best to recreate what the “Star Trek Technical Manual”  (1975) identified as a Ray Gun. In the TV show, it's never used as a ray gun. In the “Squire of Gothos” (S1 E17) it makes its first appearance as a Laser Beacon. In “The Doomsday Machine” (S2 E6) it's used as some sort of repair tool when Captain Kirk is trying to get the USS Constellation operational. Some people say it's a background prop in “Galileo Seven” but I don't see it.

I've included the (verified) episode names embossed on the bottom of the stand.

The parts are oriented as I recommend printing them. I printed the spring and barrel in PETG, everything else in PLA. The barrel is supposed to be made of diamond, but my abilities to print transparent PETG need refining, Your mileage may vary.

The Star Trek Technical Manual says it is a ray gun with offensive (kill) and defensive (stun) capabilities. The button towards the barrel is for offense, the other for defense. Because the design is slightly asymmetrical, I have identified the buttons and their associated ends with an “O and ”D" respectively.

Start by gluing in the spring, then glue the buttons to the spring. Tolerances are tight.

The tags are in 3 design layers: Back, info, and Star Trek logo. Each design layer is 1mm thick. I print at .2 resolution and do my color changes at 1.2mm and 2.2mm.

In the spirit of Star Trek, This model is offered free of copyright or restriction, and feedback is appreciated.
