Spring-loaded Hookshot from Zelda Ocarina of Time

Update 1 ; 4/30/2026: I added a full length chain file so that it doesn't have to be printed in three parts.

Update 2 ; 5/1/2026: I fixed the sizing of the screw on Hookshot_P2, so use the one that says fixed, and not the one that says DO NOT USE.

This my attempt at making a functioning Hookshot. Special thanks to NeoRame for their amazing Hookshot model.

All pieces are oriented for printing, pieces 1 and 2 as well as the head probably need supports.

Three lengths of chain should fit inside the reservoir the best way to make the chain is to pause the print halfway through and place another length in the end. Or you can cut a slit in the end link and clip it into the next length. You could also use twine instead of chain it would be longer but it wouldn't look as nice.

Assembly: You will need two pen springs and a large spring(25mm by 65mm) springs from old Nerf blasters work best.

Step 1 :  put the chain through the first chain link and insert the ends into the holes in piece 1 (you will need to use super glue).

Step 2: Thread the chain through the hole in the center of piece 2, then glue pieces 1 and 2 together. This creates the chain reservoir. Be very careful about the orientation of the two pieces as this determines the orientation of the handle with the rest of the Hookshot you may want to do this step last.

Step 3: Place the triggers into the slots of piece 4 (make sure the holes line up) and insert the axles.

Step 4: Insert pen springs into the corresponding holes in the triggers and piece 4. 

  Step 5: Put the two chain rings over piece 3.

Step 6: Insert the pegs on the top if piece 3 into the holes on the bottom of piece 4 (use glue).

Step 7: put a spring (the spring needs to be about 65mm tall and no more than 25mm wide. I used a spring from an old Nerf blaster) into the hole in the center and glue it to the bottom. This creates the spring box.

Step 8: feed the chain through the hole in the bottom of the spring box and screw the two pieces together.

Step 9: Put the second chain link through the end of the chain and insert it into the holes on the bottom of the head (use glue).

Step 10: Put the two handle rings over the ends of the handle grip and glue in place (make sure the holes line up).

Step 11: This step is tricky, first put the two handle pieces into the holes in piece one, then before the glue dries, put the other ends into the ends of the handle grip and glue.
