Description

Background:

One of my hobbies is the archery. After visiting a 3D archery parcour my hands are allways a bit dirty because sometimes you have to pull out the arrows out of mud, wood, etc. Of course you could just use some wet wipes. But it's causing some unnecessary waste and I think the hands still feel a little bit dirty. So I came up to this idea and now I can wash my hands everywhere my car is.

Criterions:

I wanted to creat something I can store in my car.

So it should…

  • …not move around while driving
  • …not take too much space
  • …be removable very quick
  • …be watertight

Realization:

For the water tank I wanted to upcycle an old canister witch was used for apple juice. So I've created a box where the canister fits in. To stop the box moving while driving I used one of the lashing eys in my trunk by adding a little hook to the box which could be hooked into the lashing eye.
Another problem was that the cap of the canister was closed so I needed a solution to get the water dosed out of it while washing the hands. The easy way would be buying a water tap. But I was pretty new in the 3D printing world when I designed the washing station so I wanted to design my own water tap to figure out, if it's possible to print something like that.
I also wanted to add a little towel and a soap dispenser to the washing station. So I designed a box where I can store these things too. The box can simply hooked into the canister box.

Because I was new into 3D printing the designed parts needed some supports at first. But I reworked the parts so only “water tap” and “valve” need some support. I didn't change these two to much because they were just an experiment for myself. They're purposeful but not perfect.

Messurements:

Canister box:

Outside: 202 x 156 x 65 mm
Inside: 198 x 152 x 63 mm

Towel and soap box:

Outside: 130 x 67 x 65 mm
Holes: Ø63 x 63 mm

What you need:

Printed parts:

You need to print each part one time. !!! Please keep in mind that the parts “water tap” and “valve” are experimental !!! These two parts were just a test for myself. They're working but the water starts dripping a little bit when the canister is laid down. They're also not optimised for 3D-printing.

Purchased parts:
  • Soap dispenser (I'm using the “TACKAN” from ikea https://www.ikea.com/de/de/p/tackan-seifenspender-weiss-90322303/ )
  • A little towel (the one i'm using is 430 x 270 mm)
  • A canister (I'm using an upcycled one. It was used for apple juice. I think it fits 5L)
  • A water tap (Only if you don't want to print the models “water tap” and “valve”! If you want to buy one, make sure it is long enough to get over the bumper of your car. For example: https://www.amazon.de/Auslaufventil-Regenwassertonne-Gartenschlauch-Schlauchanschluss-Hahnverbinder/dp/B095KCK84W/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=kunststoff+wasserhahn&qid=1645908502&sr=8-5 )
  • Some self-adhesive velcro tape (just in case your car don't have lashing eyes)
Excipient:
  • Super glue
  • Hot glue

Printing:

Instructions:

Only “water tap” and “valve” need some supports. If you want to safe material and time you can add a modifier with 0 top and bottom layers, 0 outlines and 0 infill to the bottom of “canister box”. (Like the “towel and soap box”). But i recommend a closed box in case whyever there is some water leaking.

Material:

PETG (because of the high temperatures in cars in summer)

Assembly:

1. Attach “hook for canister box” with some super glue to “canister box”. You can adjust the position of the hook to the position of the lashing eye of your car. If your car don't have some lashing eyes, you can use some self-adhesive velcro tape. Just put it on the bottom of the “canister box”.

2. Attach “hook for soap and towel box” with some super glue to “soap and towel box”.

3. Put “valve” into “water tap”.

4. Make a 20 mm hole into the cap of the canister. Then screw it on the canister and put the water tap in it. After that, mark the position of the water tap so the opening is pointing to the ground when washing your hands. Now you can glue the water tap to the cap of the canister with some hot glue. Make sure that you glued it accurate. Otherwise the water will get out the cap instead through the water tap.

5. Put the assembled canister box into a lashing eye. Then you can put the canister in it and hook the soap and towel box in.
