Description
This is a 78mm measuring gauge for motorbike mirrors used in GERMANY.
The law in Germany says that all motorbike mirrors may have a minimum surface of 69cm². This is easy to measure if it is a ROUND mirror because it means that your round mirror needs to have a minimum diameter of 9,37cm = 69cm²..
For all NON-ROUND mirrors the law says that you have to able to place a 78mm round pattern on the mirrors surface without cutting any edge.
At this point you can use this gauge with a diameter of 78mm. If you can FULLY place it ANYWHERE on your mirrors surface you are good to go in Germany. Else your mirrors are too small and will cause a fine of at least 50€ and maybe forbidden riding because your bike is not safe.
The same penalty may follow if your mirrors don't have a registered KBA number which stands for “Kraftfahrtbundesamt” (engl. Federal Office for Motor Verhicles). Mirrors without a KBA number are only for Private and show use but not in German traffic. So be careful.
Have fun - drive safe!
