Description
I tried the very popular Klamma cable clip, and while the design is really clever, I felt it was too flimsy, especially if not mounted to a flat surface, it would open on its own quite easily. So I made this one, which should not have the same problem.
Material: PLA or PETG both work fine.
Layers: Prints fine up to 0.3mm layer height.
Perimeters: 2 is enough.
Infill: 15% is enough.
Supports: not needed.
Just make sure you have good bed adhesion and it will print fine.
There are four versions of the clip, pick one that works for how you want to mount it.
Recommended option for using as a desk-side cable holder or for semi-temporary installations
There is a cutout at the back sized to take a bit of this 30 mm reusable double-sided tape. The depth of the cutout is a bit less than the thickness of the tape, allowing it to stick to stuff but minimizing wobble that you would otherwise get with such a thick tape. The tape is pretty strong, so this method can be used for a long-term install, as long as you don't yank on the cables too much.
Easiest option if you have something to wrap a zip tie around
Ears are added to the back of the clip, allowing you to put a couple of zip-ties through for mounting. Zip-ties can be inserted along the length of the clip or perpendicular to it. Or both, if you use thin zip ties.
For permanent installations on flat surfaces
Holes for counter-sunk wood screws are added every 3 cable-holes. Be careful not to screw this in too tightly, you might split the layer lines. There is also a small indent on the back where you can put a drop of glue for extra security.
For if you just want to hang it in the air or mount it with glue.
Size is measured by the number of cable holes. There are versions from 1 to 16 holes, though for some mounting options the versions with less than 4 holes may not be available. Each hole is 7.5 mm, which should let most cables slide though it pretty freely. The 4-holed clip is the default version.
For the no-dividers version, clips are sized by “number”, which is how many cable holes it would have if it had dividers. The length of the cable slot in mm is also included in the name. The width of the slot is 7.5 mm, which should fit the vast majority of cables. Size 4 is the default version.
This cable clip was intentionally made boxy and thick to stand up to real-world stresses and not open when you don't want it too. It also keeps the second-gen hinge from my bag clip, but scaled up for much more strength.
Let me know in the comments or DMs if you want any other version or mounting option.
