Original 3D models only sign

I don't usually do this because I don't like drama but after watching a video by the Youtuber Carter I was inspired to say something about the topic.

I would like to talk about what I think came a bit short in this video.

The theft of free 3D models for profit generation.

I was recently at a small local flea market when I saw this 3D-printed dragons in person for the first time. Just to be clear, I have no problem with this dragons or similar models. I actually find them pretty cool. I don't know if these people paid for a license or just downloaded some free models from the internet. There was no indication anywhere where the 3D models came from.

I have no problem with someone selling 3D printed items as long as they make it clear where and how the 3D models were acquired. The best case is if you created the models yourself without AI tools. But if you're only thinking about making a quick buck and only downloading free print files from the internet, that's not okay!

This behavior towards 3D model creators is unacceptable and must stop! Please don't misunderstand me. I don't mean replacement parts that necessarily have to function like someone else's original part. That's actually the best thing of 3D printing: Creating spare parts so something doesn't end up in the trash. I'm just talking about people who simply download free files without paying any attention to the Creative Commons license and then have the nerve to not even mention who made the 3D models. People like these are the reason why 3D printing currently has such a bad Reputation.

I designed this sign to let people know when someone is offering only their own 3D printed models for sale and nothing else.

It displays a crossed-out Download symbol and a short description. I've made it available in German and English, but feel free to download the step file and translate it into your language. Please upload it here as a remix!

I know that I can't stop these people from misuseing my sign, pretending to be legit. but I will confront them when I notice it.

I hope my sign doesn't get a different meaning soon. Like “No downloads allowed”.
