Inspired by https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:7061089 and https://www.printables.com/model/1230129-8bitdo-micro-controller-cover
I wanted to combine and perfect these two designs, and here is the result: a case for your 8bitdo Micro that makes for surprisingly secure attachment to your phone for gaming. Passes the Metroid Fusion test with flying colors (L+R+Direction+Facebuttons simultaneously).
Design considerations/upgrades during creation: A nice secure pop-in fit that doesn't leave any parts stressed (and likely to creep). Lugs at the top of the case to tension the elastic as much as possible. Button cutouts to flip controller upside down for safe storage. Mode switch & pair button cutouts. Leaves USB port open for charging while in the case. Tested in PETG, PLA, and PLA Pro. PLA Pro felt a little better for its rigidity resisting the strap flexing the arms open (very slight rattling if flexed open a little), but all three work great.
The watch strap was purchased in a 6-pack for $8. A search of “20mm elastic watch band” should return a lot of “Galaxy-compatible” straps that will work with this. The toolless pins are necessary so you have that small tab to really jam the pin into the print. Start with the band fully extended to give yourself the slack to get it attached, then tighten it up. I have a pretty small Pixel 6A with a slim case and the strap still gets tight enough at its shortest length.
