Description
This is a simple holder for a slimline laptop-style optical drive designed to fit a 5.25" bay (a rare sight in PCs these days, I admit).
I tried another model, but my drive didn’t sit well in it—so I decided to make my own. This version fits the contours of my BD-RE drive (Hitachi-LG BU40N) quite well. I haven’t added any mounting points; it’s designed to let the drive sit comfortably without fuss. As I’m still relatively new to 3D design, I didn’t want to mess around with mounting holes and alignment just yet.
Printed with default settings—2 perimeters and 5% gyroid infill—it works perfectly for my setup. I was able to force in a couple of small screws (standard hard drive mounting screws) to hold the drive in place. It’s not pretty, but it does exactly what it needs to.
I’d love to see what others do with this design. If you adapt it for your own needs—add proper mounting holes, brackets, or other improvements.
