Description
I have a X5SA frame with a VZ235 kinematics in 2WD mode (currently satisfied with it) with the motors in the back (using a modified version of the AWD mounts; also posted). I was running the front motor mount/tensioner assembly with stepper motor shells (basically stepper motors without the magnets) and worked well. Just didn't like losing build volume in Y.
Found this mod for these idler/tensioners on the VZBot Discord server, but it was for 2020 extrusions (vz235 frame is all 2020). Modified it to mount on 2040 extrusions, while retaining the tensioner knob from the VZ235 GitHub.
With this, I was able to regain some build volume from the front of the build plate. Will need to get longer rails to utilize the reclaimed space.
Depending on the height of your idler, you might need to resize the spacer for fitment.
I'm using sensorless homing so I didn't need a mount for a endstop switch.
You'll need the following hardware for this
16x M4x10mm BHCS screws
16x M4 T-Slot nuts
2x M5x30mm BHCS screws
2x M5 nuts
2x M4 Hex Head screws
2x M4 nuts (if you're using the tension knobs from the VZ235)
2x tension knobs (from the VZ235 GitHub)
Longer GT2 belts (if necessary; I needed to as I was gaining 30mm in the Y-axis)
