Quick-Release Lockpick Handle

Description

This handle securely holds standard lockpicks and allows swapping in seconds using a thumb-operated quick-release switch. No tools, no disassembly, no stuck picks. Tested with Multipick picks ranging from 0.4 to 0.6 mm.

EDIT: The handle and release switch are now wider. The release switch has a knurled surface. 

Print Instructions

Material: PLA
Infill: 15%
Supports: on build plate only
Layer height: 0.2mm

Assembly

1. Clear the slit: Carefully run a knife through the slit in the handle to remove any leftover print material and ensure smooth movement.
2. Clear the release switch: Remove any leftover supports that could obstruct smooth movement.
2. Pry open the handle: Use a flathead screwdriver to pry open the slit gently.
3. Insert the switch: Slide the quick-release switch into place, oriented as in the picture.
4. Lock it in: Remove the screwdriver—if aligned correctly, the slider will snap into position.
5. Insert the pick: Slide your lockpick into the slot until you hear a satisfying click. It’s now securely held and won’t come out unless you activate the quick-release switch.

Customization

If the tolerances don’t match your printer, you can adjust them in Fusion 360. Open the .f3d project file, then go to Solid → Modify → Change Parameters. Look for values like pick_handle_x, pick_handle_y, or pick_handle_z—tweak these to fine-tune the fit and ensure your pick seats snugly and securely.

If you manage to get a good fit, please let me know so that I can refine the defaults and improve compatibility for others.

Plans

This is a work in progress. If the tolerances feel off or you have ideas for improvement, I’d love your feedback—it helps make this handle better for everyone.

I’m also exploring ways to make the grip more ergonomic. If you have thoughts on comfort, finger placement, or shape tweaks, I’m all ears!

Tested with Multipick picks so far—if it works with other brands, I’d love to hear about it!
