Description
I shared some model renders on Reddit yesterday and a person reached out asking for a Mongbat from Ultima Online. I haven't made a monkey/ape yet so I thought why not.
I went through a couple iterations of reference images until I found something that I was happy with starting from a T-Pose. Then from there I rigged the model with Auto Rig Pro adding a multi-resolution modifier for some more detail. I wanted a crouch pose with its knuckles on the ground and then a standing pose of some kind so that's what I came up with. I had a second AI model for the bat wings which I did similar sculpting / tweaks to to get them into a place I was happy with. Lastly I made a curve / tail for the monkey and adjusted it for the standing / crouching poses.
Since the wings were a simple Boolean of another model I've made the basic monkey and winged monkey. I think the crouch version might make a nice large decoration so I scaled up an XXL version that's 100mm in height.
For scale I have it at 32mm when standing straight upright but the poses have him hunched a so he's shorter but still fills out a 25mm baseplate decently.
One thing that I didn't do was to carve out his mouth so there could be a screeching facial expression. I could definitely still do this so that could be a remix sometime. Definitely some more facial sculpting could have been done and I think this guy could be pretty expressive if given the chance. Another remix I'd like to do sometime would be a set of speak no evil, hear no evil, see to evil monkeys and circling back to DND I don't think there is a Piccolo "monkey in a tutu" and it could be a fun learning exercise to sculpt a Tutu.
That's it for these monkeys for now.
I'm on a quest to make 1000 dnd models in 2025 and you can join me on Thingiverse, Printables, Cults3d or see my weekly updates on Patreon here: https://www.patreon.com/c/Adamnant (as well as get codes for exclusive downloads on Cults3d). I'm focusing on models that don't seem to exist on Printables / Thingiverse and are listed in campaigns. If you have something that you need let me know and I can add it to my list.
