Description
I got tired of my pants and sweaters laying on the floor. So I designed a simple three hook design to go on my wall. This design is very simple with a single back plate (modeled after a piece of wood), and three hooks that are attached to the plate with a single screw. The hooks have a mortise cut into the plate for more secure fixation of the hook to the plate. The plate has three recesses to allow for hanging from screws/nails in the wall.
The hooks print on their side to maximize strength in the direction of loading. No need for supports or anything more than 20% infill.
The plate is big but will fit diagonally on a 400x400mm bed. No need for supports - the wall mounting screw recesses can be printed easily with bridges, the recesses for the hook screws has a sacrificial layer. To minimize material, it's recommended to use low infill, but not so low that the top layer isn't supported, leading to ripples in the surface finish. I got good results with 10% support cubic infill, 3 bottom layers, 4 top layers, 3 external perimeters. Your mileage will vary depending on the filament and printer.
The filaments used in the picture: plate in ProtoPasta Walnut Matte Fiber HTPLA, hooks in Coex Black PLA. The colors were chosen to match my black and dark wood bedroom furniture.
The model was originally designed to attach to the wall using 3M Command Strips, but when loaded with three pairs of jeans they kept falling off the wall - even with increasingly elaborate methods. For light loads and clean, flat walls, command strips may work just fine. But, I gave up and redesigned the plate to have recesses allowing it to be hung from the wall with screws or nails. The design is based on using #8 panhead screws with drywall anchors, but just about anything can be used.
For your convenience, a template stl is provided. It is one layer thick and can be printed, then taped to the wall to allow easy marking of where screws/nails should be put in the wall.
