Description
Universal Dovetail Mounting System for Ammo Can Controllers
The FieldCan System is a modular, 3D-printed mounting platform that converts a standard 50 cal ammo can into a portable, serviceable control hub for lighting and automation projects like xLights, WLED, and custom ESP-based controllers.
Version 1 focuses on the foundation: a no-drill, top-serviceable mounting chassis that supports structured, field-ready electronics installs.
Key Features
Modular Dovetail System
Every component mounts using integrated dovetail grooves. Slide in accessories like expansion boards, Shelly power monitors, and fuse blocks — no tools required. Adjust and reconfigure layouts on the fly.
Freestanding & No-Drill Design
FieldCan mounts directly to the ammo can floor using industrial Velcro or 3M Dual-Lock.
The only required holes are for power pass-throughs, making this a fully reversible install.
Power Supply Support (v1)
Version 1 is designed around the Mean Well LRS-350 and other Similarly Sized power supplies, ensuring a secure, heat-tolerant fit.
Controller Compatibility
Currently optimized for the Dig OCTA controller at release.
Additional board mounts will be added over time — and makers are encouraged to remix or design their own accessories to fit other controllers.
Top-Access Maintenance
No more tearing down builds for service.
Remove a couple of retaining plates and everything slides upward off the dovetail tracks for quick swaps or repairs.
Durable 3D-Printed Construction
Printed in PETG or ABS for superior strength and heat resistance.
A few M3 heat-set inserts reinforce stress points and allow clean, repeatable assembly.
Recommended Material: PETG or ABS
Layer Height: 0.2 mm
Infill: 25–30 % (grid or gyroid)
Supports: Not required for most parts
Hardware: #6-32 heat-set inserts + #6-32 bolts
Mounting: Industrial Velcro / 3M Dual-Lock
FieldCan is built for clean, modular, and field-serviceable electronics.
Everything can be swapped or expanded — no glue, no drilling, no mess.
Whether you’re running pixel controllers, power monitors, or automation relays, the system keeps your build organized and easy to maintain.
Coming soon — Version 2!
V2 will expand support to the Dig Quad, Dig Uno, and other boards, Mean Well LRS-600, and HP common-rail PSUs, plus add mounting for popular breakout boards and ESPHome integration.
