Overview

I've seen a handful of other lanterns similar to this before.  I didn't quite like them, so I decided to take a crack at modeling my own.  I designed it intentionally so that you can switch out the panels easily.

The included print files are for the basic lantern, and then a set of the “Double Window” panels.  There some height specific settings to make the lantern posts have more perimeters.

Printing

To print this you will need to print the basic lantern (Base, Top, Screw Plug) and 4 total panels.  Using Prusa Slicer (or others) you can do a color swap at a layer height to change the color of the panels.  I did my prints in white + black, but it could be fun to do other colors.

When printing the base I'd suggest increasing the perimeters on the posts (using a height range modifier)

Additionally, I had the best luck scaling the screw in plug down to 99%.  If you don't want to have the screw on the bottom, I've included an alternate base without it.

Designing Other Panels

I've included a step file with a blank panel.  You can easily take this and customize a panel to have exactly what you want.  You will want to keep the image 1.25mm from each side (so that it can slide down into the lantern).  For all of my panels I extruded the image 1mm.  This seemed to work well for blocking light.

Other Parts

These are the lights that I used: Link
