Description

I’ve been able to flush-mount my UniFi G3 Readers (without using the oversized base plate), but the design leaves a small gap around the edge that exposes the back plate. It’s a bit odd — with the Pro version, the back plate sinks neatly into the unit, but the standard G3 doesn’t.

To tidy up the install, I designed this small trim ring to fill that space. It can also be scaled slightly thicker in your slicer if your back plate isn’t perfectly flush, giving you a bit of forgiveness during installation.

I printed mine in PETG using a 0.2 mm structural setting, added a skirt to get the extrusion flowing well. I also set perimeters up (to 5 or so) to force it not to zig-zag some of the layers which seemed unnecessary. You'll want to wait for this one to fully cool, otherwise it may deform as you remove it.

Obviously this works well in white or black to match your reader, but I also experimented with a coloured highlight ring. The gap was so small it wasn’t very noticeable — so I made a second variant with a more visible accent band for anyone who wants a subtle highlight.

Hopefully this helps tidy up your own G3 Reader installs!

This model is free for personal or commercial use — I know many businesses handle UniFi installations, and honestly, this design would be very easy to replicate anyway.

Ps. One last thing, I've included my wider plate design with back plate and matching screw holes etc. This may be useful for adding into a further design that integrates the reader (e.g. a angled mount, weather/sun shield, etc).
