Description
note: I've been using this quite a while and it works great. I also found that the fan is not necessary at all, just the desiccant works perfect. In my environment I just drain out the desiccant once a month, dry it per manufacturers recommendation, and put it back it. Easy Peasy.
Here is my single dry spool holder for my Prusa Mk3 or can be used as a attachment to the side of a larger container to make changing the desiccant much easier. This presentation focuses on the adding of it directly to the Prusa MK3 for one spool.
This project was a natural outcome of making the 5 gallon storage moisture sensor. I looked at a number of different methods and thought I would try something that is maybe a little more complicated but simpler to use and doesn't take up any more space.
It uses the bottom half of a $4 dollar Lowes bucket https://www.lowes.com/pd/Encore-Plastics-5-Gallon-General-Bucket/1000309157and a ring with a 1/8 or 3mm o-ring for a seal. The desiccant is held in a printed container with a viewing window with space for a 50mm fan to draw air over the desiccant.
I did a Video https://youtu.be/WZhjauw293I to describe the build process which has all the details.
The code is in a zipped file. Rui Santos gives a good introduction to the Node Red setup.https://RandomNerdTutorials.com/esp32-mqtt-publish-bme280-arduino/
The Fusion 360 file https://a360.co/3jyALCo for the ring is included with the formula to calculate diameter for different heights. Go into parameters to change the diameter.
I've included a DXF file for cutouts to the end cover. I've included to mount to the side of a bucket and a small file to mount the Moisture sensor listed almost flush to the cover. Enough room is left to allow changing the battery.
