Description
Made this simple to print and assemble model to hold a glow stick and create glowing eyes which can be placed in the bushes and create a spooky effect. The “homemade” version usually uses a paper towel/TP roll, painted black with eyes cut out and wax paper windows taped inside and the ends capped. That's a lot of crafting, and I ain't got time for that but I do have a 3D printer and a very rudimentary understanding of fusion. VOILA!.
Simply print the eyes and cap in whatever black filament you have (PLA is probably fine as Halloween in most places isn't hot enough to warrant PETG for “outside” use) and print a "window plate" in a translucent white filament. I used PETG simply because it is a bit more translucent than white PLA and it's what I had enough of, and it creates a good “frosted” effect. The “window plate” slides in against the inside face of the eye cutouts (only fits one way with matching edge bevels), insert an activated 6" glow stick and secure the “end cap” (a simple press fit). Use the small loops on the back edge to wire-tie the glowing eyes into position inside the bushes peaking out! As the the sun sets, the eyes will begin to glow from within! Cheap, easy, durable, no batteries needed and usable year after year with new glow sticks!
NB: TO PRINT, orient with the eye cutouts DOWN on the print bed. The orientation shown here is just to display the different eye styles so you can download only those you want.
11/1/25 UPDATE: Added “window plate V2” which is a thinner window plate but still retails the triangle edges to hold it in place. Increases brightness of eyes!
