Description

Purpose

This mount allows the Mateksys M10Q-5883 GPS & Compass module to be fastened to the Speedybee Master 5 v2 RC drone. Instead of mounting the module to the drone's rear, the mount moves it to the front. The main purpose is to get the module away from the HF clutter emmitted by the control and image link antennas.

Mount Versions & Accessories

Three different mount versions are available.

  • Plug towards the drone's rear [second image].

  • Plug towards the drone's front (unprotected) [third image].

  • Plug towards the drone's front (protected) [fourth image].

Inserts are available to fill the base plate's cone-shaped cutouts that are originally meant to receive the countersunk M3x5 screws. This allows for proper screw torquing without the TPU giving away.

A spacer that fills the spot where the original GPS mount is meant to be mounted may be found here.

Hardware
  • TPU
    or similar FLEX

For printing the mount.

  • PLA
    PETG
    or similar

For printing the inserts.

  • PLA

For printing the support structure [image five and six].

  • M3x6 screws

Button or flat head screws for mounting.

Tips & Comments
  • The support blocks are printed in PLA (does not stick to TPU) and get manually placed into the TPU print. Simply set a manual pause command prior to the first respective briding layer, insert the support block, and resume the TPU print. The support for the plug protection is optional, and in fact no support blocks migth be needed at all (not tested). The arrow on the main support block indicates the mount's front. Otherwise, it is difficult to tell the parts correct orientation by bare eyes.

  • It is advisable to insert the M10Q-5883 GPS & Compass module into the mount prior to screwing the latter to the drone. This way the module can more easily be inserted into the mount.

  • The plug cover can be folded up for easier access.

  • At extreme camera uptilts the plug cover might interfere with the camera. In this case, use either of the other two mount versions.

  • Shield the module's cable going to the flight controller with aluminum foil or aluminum tape. This will block the majority of the HF interference. Make sure to wrap the shielded cable into non-conductive tape (e.g. kapton). This will add abrasion resistance and makes sure no other components get shorted out [image eight].

Note:

  • The gcode includes color change commands as the pause commands. While unloading and reloading the same FLEX filament is required, it ensures that the nozzle is primed before resuming the print.

  • The gcode information in the header is for the "Open Front Protected" version utilizing PrusaSlicer's "balanced" print profiles.
