Description
So I've got my hands on HP EliteDesk 705 g4 mini pc. Wanted to use it as my home server. It had a AMD Ryzen 5 2400GE CPU, which is only 35w TDP, but still - under IDLE loads it would sit at ~55-65 C
For some reason HP decided to not include ventilated lid for this particular unit - which caused heat trap inside the PC case.
My solution was to add external 5v 80x15mm cooler to this setup to exhaust warm air from inside the case.
I designed this attachment that made it possible to install this fan easily and with good aesthetics.
It possibly can fit other PCs, just be considerate of what you're doing.
Bill of material:
- 80x15mm fan
- HP specific connector (to connect it to the HDD_FAN header on motherboard)
- 2x (or 4x) M3x18mm screws (not really necessary, but good for setup)
Printing:
- Print shroud on it's bottom with support enabled. I used PETG with SNUG support.
- Print grill on it's top. No support necessary.
You need to cut 100x100mm hole in the PC case. I did it with Dremel cutter. You do You.
Then I soldered this fan to a connector and connected it to a HDD_FAN header on MOBO.
Put the fan inside the shroud, screw it in (shroud have self-tap M3 holes), cover it with grill and snap it in the hole.
Highly recommend to get a 5v fan. BUT IF YOU CANT FIND IT - Like me, you can get a 12v fan and connect only +5v and ground pins. It will run slower, but completely silent. And it's still enough to exhaust air.
Mine temperatures dropped from 65C IDLE to around 45C idle.
P.S. Do all modifications to your PC at your own risk. I'm not responsible in any damage you may cause.
