A simple, low-cost, easy-to-print, MOTU M2 Under Desk Mount that uses 3M Command Large Picture Hanging Strips
Print Settings
- Choose your preferred model: Raised or Flat. Use Raised if your table has a 20 mm thick metal bar like mine in the pictures. Otherwise, if your table doesn't have a metal bar, then use Flat.
- Print two of the mounts as is (front face on the build plate). 0.2 mm layer height recommended for proper adhesion of the Command Strips.
- Material, infill, perimeters, etc., settings are up to you.
Assembly
- I recommend getting a fresh, brand-new set of 8x 3M Command Large (15 lb) Picture Hanging Strips. If you had strips laying around for a long while, they have likely “dried out”. Yes, I know the 15 lb strip is probably overkill, and it isn't designed for hanging things other than a vertical wall, but I want to ensure these will never separate from the desk.
- Clean the top of the mounts and under your desk to ensure there aren't any contaminants like fingerprint oils.
- Adhere 2 command strips on top of each mount, with the tabs pointing outward/sides of the mount.
- Grab 2 strips, but do not remove the adhesive backing yet. Connect these strips to the strips on the mount. Repeat for the second mount.
- Assemble and slide the mounts on the front and back of the M2. Remove the adhesive backing of all strips on each mount.
- While holding the M2 and the mount together with both your hands, align them under your desk and apply firm pressure for around 30 seconds.
- Once adhered to your desk, you should be all set. However, according to 3M's instructions, they recommend 1 hour for the adhesive to build, so I prefer to carefully detach the mount and M2 from the adhered strips.
Other Notes
I uploaded .step files of the mounts if you need to remix them for your particular desk.
