MINIMALIST POSTCARD FRAMING SYSTEM (CONTAINS MAGNETS!)

Here is a super flexible "framing" system for postcards and postcard sized photographs. It's like a construction set that you can assemble in any way you wish.  Don't be constrained by what you see here.

At it's most basic it can be a nice fridge magnet that will keep the postcards flat.

It can be hung on a wall using some ribbon or string threaded through the holes built for that purpose - in that case use two “frames” back to back, and if you wish repeat on the bottom as well to give a much sturdier appearance.

Of course you can then string as many as you wish in a vertical display simply by threading the string and knotting it beneath the top bar of each print.

For a neat desk stand (best for nice thick card stock) print a pair of the easel pieces and match either vertically or horizontally with a pair of standard bars.   The postcard will act as the bracing membrane to keep it all square (or not square if you choose).

PRINTING INSTRUCTIONS

This is a really simple print with a stop built in so that two magnets can be inserted.  Just print as many pieces as you wish, and if you want a little desk stand/easel print those in pairs.  I have printed 0.2mm layer height with no supports required.

The .3mf file has been added to show suggested orientation for printing and has been sliced with an appropriate pause for magnet insertion - printing the stands does add considerably to the print time, so you may wish to print those separately.

IMPORTANT - INSTALLING  MAGNETS

The model has been designed with nominally 10 x 2mm magnets in mind so the recesses are 10.2mm diameter by 2.1mm high.   Any magnet that fits into that recess should be fine.

Stop your print at 2.6mm high to insert the magnets.
 

To ensure that the magnets will grip one another and not repel please ensure install them in accordance with this diagram where red is NORTH and blue is SOUTH. (actual direction is not important just make sure they are OPPOSITE!)

It's important that the magnets on each frame piece are installed with opposite poles, and REALLY important that the easel pieces are opposite to each other in addition.
