I like the idea of JMAW's Edge Banding Trimmer. Unfortunately it did not work that well for me. I wanted a model, where the blade can be fixed directly to the model using some screws and nuts, instead of having a clamp. Because in the space between clamp and body a lot of dirt can accumulate. Moreover, securing the blade with screws on both sides ensures that it cannot move. I also wanted a smaller model which uses less filament. So here is my own edge banding trimmer model :-)
You need:
- 2x screw M3x20
- 1x screw M3x16
- 3x M3 nut
- Stanley Carbide utility blade (trapezial). Other blades (62 mm length, 19 mm width) may work, but they may also have different sized or positioned holes, which would be a problem.
Instructions:
- Print the model. If you print it as in the picture below no supports are needed. I used a layer height of 0.08mm, but 0.2mm should work as well. Wall printing order should be “inner/outer/inner” for dimensional accuracy. I used 3 walls/perimeters and 15% Gyroid infill.
- Stick the M3 screws through the holes as in the pictures and mount them in the M3 nuts which you add from the back. Keep everything loose until you positioned the blade in next step.
- Put the blade on the big slope. Then slide it down until it touches the bottom part of the model which will be on the same level as your workpiece later. Take a look from the bottom to ensure the blade really touches the model, as shown in the following picture:
Note that the blade don't has to touch the slope all the way. It's ok if there is a gap between slope and blade. The blade will be held in place by the three screws. At least in the middle where the cut will happen. - Tighten the screws. They should press the blade down and stop it from moving back and forth.
