Description
A futuristic ball holder inspired by wormhole geometry and radial symmetry. This sculptural stand grips sports balls (basketball, soccer, baseball, golf, volleyball) with elegance and stability, making it ideal for display or storage. The tubular arms curve upward from a circular base, creating a dynamic curved effect that blends sci-fi aesthetics with functional design. Perfect for minimalist interiors, sports-themed rooms, or tech-inspired decor. Designed for 3D printing in mind, can be scaled for desired applications. Six variants included in two different size sets.
Printing Tips:
I was able to print without supports in PLA using both 0.4mm and 0.6mm nozzles. There should also be enough bed contact via the bottom ring to not require a brim. Some stringing might occur, a handheld blowtorch works great here. The larger variant is designed to hold a 5 inch ball, for larger balls you will need to scale up.
To help the overhangs near the top come out cleaner I recommend:
Stick with smaller layer heights (0.2mmm or less),
Have at least 3 walls/perimeters printing inside to outside order (inner wall first)
Positioning the z-seam to align to center of object such that it lands on the inside/top instead of bottom of overhangs.
Increase height relative to lateral dimensions of object to make overhang angle smaller.
I have other ball holder designs in my sports collection:
