Description

Print a medal display with a 3D course map from the NYC Marathon! Don't let your medal collect dust in a drawer, show it off on your wall using this display. The display shows the GPS track and elevation profile of the iconic New York City Marathon course.

Printing Tips

This model may be prone to warping because it's wide and thin, but we can mitigate this with a brim and hotter bed.

  • 5-10mm brim. I used 5mm to fit on a 180x180mm Prusa Mini, but a 10mm brim would be ideal if you have enough room for it.
  • 70C heat bed will also help combat warping.
  • I used 15% infill, though 10% may be sufficient.
  • Use snug supports under the cavity in the back. I made a slightly larger xy separation (150%) for easier removal.

If your printer doesn't support multi-color printing, you can probably still achieve a 2-color model by adding a pause for a color change in your slicer. There are lots of guides and tutorial videos to help you through this if you've never done it before.

You can print the model without any customization, but if you want to customize it you can add your name or time in Prusa Slicer or whatever 3D software you're comfortable with.

Assembly

The only assembly required is removing the supports, adding your medal, and hanging it on the wall. I used masking tape to hold the medal in place and 3M poster strips to secure it to the wall.

This model uses some of the code from gpxtrack.xyz, also created by me, to generate the GPS track.
