Description
I wanted a way to use the handles on a butterfly knife for the offensive so I came up with the blade in the handle solution.
While probably not a good idea on a real balisong, they make for a fun toy when 3D printed. The larger size "Butter Chuck" is (about 16" open and 9" closed) was designed to emulate the swing and size of nunchaku (nunchucks) and the smaller size performs much more like a butterfly knife. While these are made of plastic, they do have pointy parts and should be used with caution and only used by adults or under supervision.
Notes:
The default print is very large. The lowest down scale is 85% to create a traditional sized butterfly knife. Any lower and the connection points will fail. There is a picture with the 85% next to the full size.
These were printed with a QIDI plus 4 using QIDI metallic filament in silver, blue, coffee and black.
The tolerances are VERY tight you must be patient when assembling them. Make sure you align the pieces with the blade closed and the inner holes matching the stopper pin or pay close attention to which two sides you are connecting in relation the blade. The left and right have to go in the correct order. Make sure you add equal pressure on the top and the bottom of the handle pieces as you assemble they must go down evenly to avoid breaking. Align the holes, press gently in a see-saw fashion or else you will break the pins. Once assembled it is a very solid knife and they are great fun to swing around and use both the handle blades and the main blade.
