Description
The classical Gimpet cat toilet/litter box has been in production for decades and even after the end of its production is still widely in use due to its sturdy, chemically inert, allmost everlasting design.
In case you happen to own the classical Gimpet cat toilet plus the newer upper housing (the version prepared to hold a swing door) but not the door and your cat for whatever reason has decided that this housing alone will not keep it from throwing out some of the box's content when reflexively rearranging the interior, you can now print a fully functional retrofit swing door and find out what your cat makes of that.
The design has been optimized for
functionality both in perfect shape fit as well in the right centre of gravity for the door to close flush with the outside walls of the loo housing
ergonimic aspects for example fully rounded, cat friendly edges etc.
HOW TO PRINT:
PLA is fine, so are:
0.4 nozzle and 0.2 layer height,
3 perimeter walls, 3 bottom layers and 4 top layers,
a minimum of 15% grid infill
print orientation as shown in the snapshot for the side blower to hit the angled section
no support needed but high cooling airflow both at the nozzle and from the side of the build plate for the angled section to turn out well
WHAT ELSE IS NEEDED:
2 M3 weld-in-inserts
2 M3 round head screws with a length between 10 and 15 mm with their heads of shape and size to snap-fit the present spacings in the upper toilet housing where the plastic axles of the original swing door was to be mounted
HOW TO ASSEMBLE:
After ironing in the two thread inserts to fit flush and not stand out,
test how deep the screws need to be turned in for the door to swing freely,
then take the door out again and fix the screws in the correct position with some thread lock fluid or some nail varnish.
Let the fix fluid dry for at least an hour and wipe off all surplus fluid before putting the door in, again.
