IMPORTANT PRINTING INFO

  1. Follow the screenshot for part orientations.
  2. No supports required for anything.
  3. The little block and gasket need to be printed twice each and from TPU
  4. For the gasket use 100% infill and “avoid crossing perimeters” for a cleaner print.
  5. For the block 50% infill works good.
  6. I print the tube sections in PLA, default settings, no supports, gaskets, rafts etc, stop wasting plastic
  7. Never touch the top side of your print sheet with your fingers the oils ruin adhesion, only touch the bottom, which you should use for TPU as the oils will prevent the TPU from sticking too well tearing it up. Follow this basic rule and you will never need to wash your sheet or use weird adhesives when printing basic filaments like TPU/PLA/PETG </rant>

Assembly

The TPU gaskets go between the 3 body sections and have little tabs which slot into little holes on the inside of the mouth and holes flute sections. When inserted proper the TPU gasket should be raised about 0.3mm above the pla endstops. Then simply screw the 3 sections together. The tpu blocks slide in to the rails near the mouth hole, and you can adjust them as needed.

Random Design Notes

Wanted to try my hand at a drone flute, the other design on here worked quite nice once i added kapton tape to help seal the joints, but they still felt rickety, and the static air chamber was kinda long which made the finger positions uncomfortable. I've been having lots of fun modeling bottle cap style threads rather than screw threads recently and wanted to apply that to a flute, and i had a lot of fun making this. But it wasn't 100 percent successful. Tuning the higher notes is a bit of a lost cause as slight changes in air pressure can swing the pitch by quite a lot. I also just don't love how the higher notes sound. I struggled for a lot with overblowing and chamfering the insides of the finger holes greatly the issues, I think the flat surface of the top of the air chamber made the hole more prone to interrupting the vibrations even when covered, which might partially explain the lack of square chamber wind instruments in the wild. The joint works great but unfortunately requires a gasket due to the mating surfaces not both being bottom layers, the top layer surfaces just aren't air tight enough. They are also not in a comfortable position for sanding. The gasket is sandable tho tpu is a weird material to sand, and it doesn't really seem necessary on my prints but ymmv. I tried ironing but couldn't make it work, i think the problem is the linear direction of ironing on the rounded and thin shape of the mating surfaces. The finger holes of  the lower 3 holes are annoyingly far apart, and i wish i could make the 3 pieces more similar in length or 2 pieces that are 50/50, but the holes need to be where they are, and i didn't want to mees with the diameter of the chamber as i like the feel and didn't want to retune everything and waste more plastic. I have a bit of a love hate relationship with the vertical mouth holes, they make it really easy to pick which of the flutes i blow into but the mouthfeel is not as nice as a lower profile side by side setup. But the joints are rock solid and that makes me happy :D
