Description
Within the annals of the twentieth century echoes the discovery of the Hungarian mathematicians Gábor Domokos and Péter Várkonyi: the proof of the existence of a class of three-dimensional bodies that, in their simplicity, bear a wondrous property – only one stable, only one labile equilibrium. The Gömböc, a symbol of this mathematical harmony, returns to its origin solely through the nature of its form.
Yet, since the days when a fateful apple disturbed the divine order, a dark power seems intent on besmirching the perfection of the universe through small acts of corruption. Thus, it could not remain unheeded that the mathematicians’ discovery was misappropriated by the designers of a pharmaceutical company for a new product, named “Lenzetto”. They perverted the mathematical elegance of the Gömböc in a grotesque manner, bestowing upon it countless, precarious equilibrium positions.
This malicious constitution of the product breeds discord within the household. The wife struggles after each use with the impossibility of accommodating the restless container on the shelf of the bathroom, while the husband, plagued by autistic striving for order and symmetry, feels, upon each glimpse of this monstrosity, the urge to escape the chaos.
Though it is not granted to humankind to banish the work of the Devil entirely from the universe, we can at least attempt to mitigate the damage wrought. Therefore, I present to you with pride this small creation, which bestows a firm stance upon the recalcitrant container of Lenzetto, and thus defies the Evil that surrounds us. A humble act of rebellion against the dark forces that beset us!
