Smart Rewinder mounting base for COREBOXX integration

Introduction / Einführung

Smart Rewinder is a sensor equipped, microcontroller-managed ative filament spool management system as DIY project. It is designed for Prusa printers equipped with MMU3, such as CORE One, MK4, and MK3, but it will certainly work with other printers as well. It reacts to filament movements in both directions and rotates the spools accordingly so that the filament is always free of pressure and tension. It is an innovative alternative to the somewhat impractical and cumbersome filament buffer. and much more advanced than passiv/mechanical rewinders. The system can be setup and operated as a stand-alone, but thanks to its modular design, it can also be integrated into filament storage systems such as CORE-CUBE. Up to 5 spools can be connected. Smart Rewinder ist ein sensorisch ausgestattetes, Micro-Controller gesteuertes aktives Filament-Spulen Management System zum Selberbauen (DIY). Es wurde für mit MMU3 ausgestattete Prusa Drucker, wie CORE One, MK4, MK3, funktioniert aber sicher auch mit anderen Druckern. Es reagiert auf die Filament Bewegungen in beide Richtungen und dreht die Spulen entsprechend, so dass das Filament immer frei von Druck und Spannungen ist. Es ist eine innovative Alternative zum etwas unpraktischen, in der Handhabung aufwendigen Filament-Puffer und wesentlich fortschrittlicher sowie zuverlassiger als passive/mechanische Reeinder. Das System kann freistehen betrieben werden, ist aber aufgrund des modularen Aufbaus auch integrierbar in Filament Aufbewahrungssysteme, wie z.B. CORE-CUBE. Es können bis zu 5 Spulen angeschlossen werden.

With this adapter you can integrate the Smart Rewinder chassis into COREBOXX premium. Just use the normal free-stand housing for the display and the main board and replace the base for the Rewinder chassis with this one. The position can be flexible adjusted. Mit diesem Adapter können sie das Smart Rewinder Chassis in COREBOXX premium integrieren. Verwenden Sie einfach das normale Standgehäuse für das Display und die Hauptplatine und ersetzen Sie den Sockel für das Rewinder-Chassis durch diesen. Die Position kann flexibel angepasst werden.

The mainboard housing can be placed behind the rewinders if your MMU3 is wall mounted. For those ones using the floor mount setup for the MMU3, there will be an adjustment to integrate the mainboard coming very soon. Background information / Hintergrund Informationen

If you are using a filament-storage system or do not have so much space for a Prusa Buffer setup you need a rewinder or similar function, to handle the filament pushback. The actual motivation and challenge for this project was the experience with the passive rewinders for a couple of months. Yes, they all do work somehow, but on the long run they all turned out not to be close to 100% reliable. This means no night runs and the risk of lost prints and filament (not to consider the energy for hours of useless print heating, while standing on error), which is not acceptable at all. Furthermore, you might need to tweak the printer and filament profiles and still some of the filament changes, especially the unload fail, probably because of the filament type or brand. One major disadvantage seems to be that the passive rewinder cannot properly handle the micro movements of the Nextruder for ramming, tip forming and cooling through the long tubes before the change. It's all designed für the Prusa Buffer, which keeps the filament totally free from pressure and tension. Hence this unexpected tension or pressure on the filament is not expected and makes the filament changes cumbersome, because the filament does not behave as expected. Good news is, this is over now. In the last couple of weeks we make hundreds of test prints with more than 25.000 filament changes with the sensor controlled active Smart Rewinder on 4 different Core One machines all with the default profiles setting and not a single one failed!!! Wenn Sie ein Filament-Lagersystem verwenden oder nicht genügend Platz für einen Prusa-Puffer haben, benötigen Sie einen Rewinder oder eine ähnliche Funktion, um den Filament-Rücklauf zu bewältigen. Die eigentliche Motivation und Herausforderung für dieses Projekt war die Erfahrung mit passiven Rewinder-Systemen über einen Zeitraum von einigen Monaten. Ja, sie funktionieren alle irgendwie, aber auf lange Sicht erwiesen sie sich alle als nicht annähernd 100 % zuverlässig. Das bedeutet, dass keine Nachtläufe möglich sind und das Risiko besteht, dass Drucke und Filament verloren gehen (ganz zu schweigen von der Energie für stundenlanges nutzloses Aufheizen des Druckers, während er im Fehlerzustand steht), was völlig inakzeptabel ist. Darüber hinaus müssen Sie möglicherweise die Drucker- und Filament-Profile anpassen, und dennoch kommt es immer wieder zu Fehlern beim Filamentwechsel, insbesondere beim Entladen, wahrscheinlich aufgrund des Filamenttyps oder der Marke. Ein großer Nachteil scheint zu sein, dass der passive Rewinder die Mikrobewegungen des Nextruders zum Rammen, Spitzenformung und Kühlen vor dem Wechsel durch die langen Schläuche nicht richtig handhaben können. Der Wechselvorgang ist komplett für den Prusa Buffer ausgelegt, der das Filament völlig frei von Druck und Spannung hält. Daher ist diese unerwartete Spannung oder dieser Druck auf das Filament nicht vorgesehen und erschwert den Filamentwechsel, da sich das Filament nicht wie erwartet verhält. Die gute Nachricht ist, dass dies nun vorbei ist. Wir haben in den letzten Wochen Hunderte von Testdrucken mit mehr als 25.000 Filamentwechseln mit dem sensorgesteuerten aktiven Smart Rewinder auf 4 verschiedenen Core One-Maschinen durchgeführt, alle mit den Standardprofileinstellungen, und kein einziger ist fehlgeschlagen!!!

COREBOXX premium is not our design and there are no COREBOXX premium files modified or included in this download. This Smart Rewinder base uses the already existing screw holes in the bottom plate, hence no modification needs to be done. COREBOXX Premium ist nicht unser Design und es sind keine COREBOXX Premium-Dateien in diesem Download enthalten oder modifiziert worden. Dieser Smart Rewinder-Adsapter nutzt die bereits vorhandenen Schraubenlöcher in der Bodenplatte, sodass keine Modifikationen erforderlich sind.
