Description

For the uninitiated, this ornament is inspired by a sketch from the endlessly funny Tim Robinson's Netflix series, “I Think You Should Leave”.

For the initiated, pretty funny show, huh? Want your Christmas tree to be sidesplittingly funny? Print this Christmas ornament and thank me later!

Apologies to my non multi-material-capable friends. A full color version of this ornament will require a printer capable of multi-material printing, or some paint and a steady hand. There are also two versions of the ornament, one with a hand-carved texture to mimic the appearance of a classic whittled wooden tree ornament, and one with a smooth surface.

Printing Tips:

The ornament itself prints very reliably but will require some support material.

  • After dragging the ornament into my slicer, I moved it down 1 mm so that the toes intersected slightly with the print bed.
  • I then added a 10 mm brim and reduced the brim gap to 0 mm to give the print some solid bed adhesion.
  • I enabled tree supports and then painted additional supports onto the bottoms of the ornament's feet and extended the support area on the ornament's hindquarters. The autogenerated supports might have done the trick, but I'd rather waste a very small amount of material on additional supports than risk a print failure.
  • Lastly, I painted the model in my slicer and set my seam position to “Back”.
  • The zipline trolley that our little zipliner hangs from prints separately in 3 parts. Default print settings should suffice, just make sure your print bed is clean since these parts are very small and can easily detach.

Assembling your finished ornament is super easy. Pass one handle bar through the zipliner's hand and into one side of the zipline trolley, then pass the other handlebar through the other hand and into the opposite side of the trolley. I'd recommend using some super glue to hold these pieces together as well. Now just add a standard ornament hook to the trolley and your ornament is ready for the tree!

Hope this very niche ornament design finds its way to people that will appreciate it. If you print one, add a make so I can see how it turns out! Happy holidays everybody!
