The original Big Einsy case is a great idea, but it was imperfect from my point of view:
- used too much fillament
- had ugly vents
- it was difficult to route the cables in there
- used countersunk screws for the lid
- did not have place for RPi Zero 2
Hence I took the other STEP file Big einsy case and pretty much reworked it from scratch.
It now features
- place for Rpi Zero 2
- breakout slots for all Rpi ports
- Easy printing without supports
- Uses only M3 screws with flat head (except for M2.5 screws for RPi)
- can be screwed on the 3030 profile to increase frame rigidity (optimal nut model provided)
- Uses way less material
- Has optional connection for MMU unit
- Easier mounting due to cuouts for screw heads
- sufficient space from bottom of the board for additional TMC2130 heatsinks (1cm clearance)
- screw-length tolerant design - for most holes longer or shorter screws work just fine
Printing instructions:
- Note the orientation of bridges on the long cutout - in my case the slicer default was on the long edge, which resulted in bridging in thin air. Rotating bridges by 45degrees helped in my case.
- Other than that, just do whatever you want, basic 0.2mm layer setting is just fine
- The nut in this model is 1mm shorter than the original model - you need to print my version for correct functionality
Material needed
- M3 square nuts thin (DIN 562, the same ones as the rest of Prusa printer) 10pcs
- M3 hexagonal nuts 4pcs
- M3x10 or longer screws 18pcs
- (optional) M3x18 for MMU cable attachment 2pcs
- (optional) M2.5 screws + nuts for RPi Zero 2 2pcs
- (optional) M3x10 screw for the frame-mount nut
Mounting instructions
- insert all the square nuts, as it is easier to put them in before mounting (the one for X axis cannot be put in if case is on frame)
- screw partially the two screws on frame closer to bed
- (optional) screw on loosely the 3030nut on the case, as it is difficult to put it on later after case is on frame
- mount the case
- route in all cables, close the lid and you are done
