Description
Hi,
this model is a replacement part for my old car (Ford Fiesta, build date 2009) where the release mechanism for the engine hood broke.
The plastic part that holds the Bowden wire and acts as the release lever for the hood broke and doesn't hold the bowden wire anymore (see picture).
I designed 3 variants:
A big one & smaller variant with a top entry for the Bowden wire and locking clips (white) (not tested)
A small variant where no locking clip is necessary
I’m using the orange one since it fits best.
The Bowden wire end part has the following measurements: length 10 mm, dia: 5.85 mm, wire dia: ~1.6 mm
The only downside to my replacement part: The original part had an end-stop for the Bowden cable mantle and the lever in one piece. My solution is just a hook, so I have to grip the mantle with my other hand to release the hood. But it works …
My print settings:
Handle:
Nozzle: 0.4 mm
Layer Height: 0.2 mm
Walls: 6
Infill: 25% gyroid
Material: PETG
Supports: yes, see picture
Cable Holder:
Nozzle: 0.4 mm
Layer Height: 0.25 mm
Walls: 5
Infill: 15% gyroid
Material: PETG
Supports: yes, see picture
Update 15.11.2025:
I added a holder for the Bowden cable. It slides into the metal bracket where the original part was located. You will need three M4x15mm screws. The single screw should be tightened after the cable is positioned between the holder and the clamp, and after the whole part is slid into the metal bracket. This prevents the holder from sliding out.
Happy printing!
