Description
I modeled this Moravian Star after an injection molded version that we had purchased many years ago.
Printing:
I used Prusament clear PETG. Make sure you calibrate your printer to the filament for bridging performance, or you might get quite a lot of stringing.
You'll need to print:
1 x Hub_Body_Top
1 x Hub_Body_Bottom
1 x Base
8 x Triangle Point
17 x Square Point
I would recommend printing the points at a 45 degree angle to help minimize the chances of tabs snapping on install.
You'll need to buy:
A light fixture. I found that an e12 light fixture without “wings” would fit nicely through the square opening.
Assembly:
Print the hub top and bottom, align the tabs and superglue them together. Make sure the triangle cut outs on the top and bottom align.
Note: For some larger e12 bulbs, you may want to capture the bulb inside the hub at this point, as they may not easily slide through the square openings.
Next I would recommend installing the base. Place the light fixture (if using) into the base and run the cord out of the cutout. Align the tabs of the point with the corners of the square cutout, then push and twist into place.
After the base is installed, I would recommend installing the triangle points. Again, align them with the tabs facing the vertices of the triangle, then push and twist into place.
Then, install all of the square points.
Another note: If you have tabs snap on you during install, it's possible to still use those points, by using superglue on the flange and hub, just be careful to align properly.
