Description

The Apollo Standalone V4+ computer is an amazing little Amiga compatible computer. And while the included case from Apollo works perfectly fine, it has a couple shortcomings. Namely it doesn't have easy access to it's Compact Flash storage card or JTAG connector if you need to flash another core.

This case solves both of those shortcomings by having the CF card accessible from the rear of the case and a single screw holds the case together so you can easily access the JTAG connector on the board.

It also adds a couple other quality of life improvements. The V4 supports a second, full size SD card slot via an expansion board and ribbon cable, however the stock case doesn't have room for that. This one does right up front. Also, via connector P20 you can add in an analog audio board which the stock case also doesn't have room for. So I added that in as well.

Required Components:

V4SA+ Computer

CF card adapter and short (4 inch) 44 pin IDE cable (these probably came with your V4SA)

5qty  m3 x 5mm Button Head Screws (4 for mainboard, 1 for DAC)

4qty m2.5 x 5mm Button Head Screws (2 for CF card,  2 for SD module)

1qty m3 x 6mm Flat Head Screws (rear of case)

Optional Components:

SD Card module (for the front): https://shoq.apollo-computer.com/product_info.php?products_id=44

PCM5102 Analog Audio DAC board: https://amzn.to/43TrxtN

M3 heatset or pressfit insert

Printed parts:

Motherboard tray

CF Card Mount

Outer Shell (both single and multicolor versions)

Stand (optional)

Print Settings:

The only thing you might want to be careful with is the Compact flash slot on the motherboard tray. I would advise using supports here to keep the plastic from dropping due to bridging.

The outer shell comes in a couple variants. Both Single color and multi color and with or without support for a brass insert for the shell screw.  Print the outer shell with it's front facing down on the print bed. If you selected a single color shell, the V4 logo and controller ports 1 and 2 will be debossed (recessed) into the front for a nice, clean look.

To print the multicolor version, in your slicer click on the shell and then use the option to "Split to Objects" in BambuSlicer or PrusaSlicer. If you use Cura or something else they probably have a similar option.

After you split to objects, you can select the individual letters/pieces of text in the logo on the front of the shell and assign them a color. Feel free to get as creative as you like with color choices.

I have also included the master STEP cad file if you want to remix it.

Assembly:

The mainboard sits in the tray and is secured with 4 m3 button head screws to the standoffs. When fitting it, make sure the microSD slot in the rear goes into the back of the case otherwise the motherboard won't align with the standoffs. Optionally, if you have it, you can attach the SD card module via 2 M2.5 screws (there is mounting standoffs for 4, but only 2 are needed). It's cable plugs into connector P22.

The PCM5102 DAC sits in a tray in the rear of the case. It's 3.5mm jacks slots into the hole and then the DAC is held in place with a single m3 button head screw. It's 5 dupont connectors plug into connector P20. More documentation on the DAC can be found on Apollo's Website and Discord.

The CF card adapter mounts to the bottom of the CF card mount. It attaches via 2 m2.5 button head screws. See photos. Once attached, it just slides down into the recess in the back of the tray right above the HDMI port.

If you printed the outer shell with support for a brass insert, you can install that now. I personally like the press fit style from EZ-Lok, but heatset ones should be fine too.

The whole assembly should slide into the outer shell along the rails on it's side and align with all the ports in the front. Install 1 flat head m3 screw in the rear (beside the arrow) to complete assembly. If you printed it, you can place it in the vertical stand.
