Description

After printing a fabulous Portal Gun replica model, where's a maker to display it? How about on a free-standing display like you'd find it on in-game?

Inspired by the Portal Gun stand in game where Chell first picks up the device, I decided to model and a assemble a stand of my own to display it on. The stand was one of my first models where I decided to use fasteners and went heavy into use of heat-set inserts. Granted if you don't ever want to disassemble the stand in the future, these need not be used, just glue it together.

If you want to see my trials and tribulations, I made a long post about design and assembly here.

Floor Stand:

The floor stand STL is sized to fit a brake rotor from a '99 Pontiac Grand Am (what I had on hand from changing my brakes), and accpet a 3" diameter ABS sewer pipe. Rotor Dimensions: 118mm diameter bolt hole circle w/ 5 bolt holes ~191mm diameter outer hub at ~40mm tall Stand consists of x2 2"-3" abs couplers and a 2" ABS sewer pipe and 3" ABS sewer pipe cut to appropriate size to bring the stand up to about stomach height. The 3D model for the wire plug fits a ~10-11mm drilled hole, designed to hold a USB charge cable, recommend printing out of TPU (can be printed from PLA, results may vary).

Plaque Image:

Image for the plaque is included in the photos of this print. Picture needs to be 160mm wide X 88mm tall. Print on glossy photo paper or equivalent for best results.

Portal Device Mod STLs:

I included the STL files that I used to hollow out the Portal Gun I printed (as the original author does not allow remixes with their license). These files can be used as positives or negatives in PrusaSlicer to combined with the Portal Gun STLs and make it easier to hollow out areas to insert the electronics. If you want to read about how I did that, I touch on it in this post. These files need not be printed unless you are looking to add electronics to your Portal Gun.
