Description
Personally, I find Avel's duct much cooler than the Nautilus one. This is why I decided to print it.
During assembly, however, I noticed a few areas that could be improved:
The screws listed in the original project were not accurate, so I re-checked everything.
For this remix (but also useful for the original), the correct list is:
4× M3x10 — to mount the shroud to the duct
2× M3x14 — to fix the front part of the duct to the extruder
1× M4x25 + nut — to attach the 5015 fan to the shroud
I also enlarged all pass-through holes. There’s no reason to thread both flanges, only the rear one should be threaded.
My recommendation is to tap the ABS with an M3 tap on all four duct holes that mate with the shroud, instead of letting the screws cut their own thread.
After assembling the original design, I realized that the gap between the bottom of the duct and the build plate was extremely small, possibly due to my lowered aftermarket MK8 nozzle. Loose filament strands could get caught and drag the print.
To fix this, I reduced the duct thickness by almost 1 mm. This provides proper clearance while keeping airflow unchanged.
