Description

Rectangular-shaped bread lame, using standard double edge razor blade and no extra hardware parts.

Be careful! Razor blades are sharp! Handle with care!

After using my original design for 5 (!) years, decided it was time to make a new model that deals with some of the usability annoyances with the older design.

  • Uses a sliding mechanism to expose the blade, instead of having to fiddle with the lid and blade.
  • Exposes only one corner, instead of the entire head.
  • Unused blade edge is less exposed, for slightly more safety.
  • Instead of a fancy compliant lock, I stuck with the retainer clip design.

Fully extended, there is ¾" blade exposed.

Fully collapsed, the dimensions are approx. 47mm x 29mm x 8mm.

Usage Notes

Assembly:

  1. Insert razor blade into slider.
  2. Grasping slider+blade (carefully!), insert fully into case.
  3. Use clip to retain slider.

Usage:

  1. Hold case by the sides, fingers away from the triangle!
  2. Remove clip; try not to lose it.
  3. Using slider tab, slide blade out.
  4. Use clip to retain slider in exposed position.
    • This is optional; just squeezing the case is enough to prevent movement, but safety first!

Printing Instructions

As pictured: 0.4mm nozzle, 0.2mm layer height, PLA

  1. Print the 3 pieces; STLs should already be oriented for printing.
    • Optionally mirror the slider and case; still unsure of the optimal handed-ness.
  2. Insert slider into case without a blade; make sure it slides freely!
  3. (Optional) Squeeze the clip-ends if it does not have enough clamping pressure for your liking.
  4. (Optional) Color in the triangle for extra visibility.
