The monumental Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the whole world, becoming a symbol of the city and Brazil. It is also our representative of South America in the Wanderlust Collection of MiniWorld3D!
As many of our other models, this has been updated to modern standards, in contrast to our original from 2014. Artist Luana Ferreira, a native Brazilian, was perfect to make the definitive version of this model for MiniWorld3D.
The statue is in Art Deco style, created by sculptor Paul Landowski and built by engineers Heitor da Silva Costa & Albert Caquot. Romanian sculptor Gheorghe Leonida fashioned the face. Built between 1922 and 1931, the statue is 30 m (98 ft) tall, excluding its 8 m (26 ft) pedestal. The arms stretch 28 m (92 ft) wide. It is made of reinforced concrete and soapstone, and it is not solid, contrary to what it may be believed, but has a steel structure inside instead (from Wikipedia).
