Description
I believe it was in the period between 2001-2010 that we purchased these mini Christmas tree incandescent light outside decorations that was a string of lights with four spiral wound plastic sequences that would attach to a very lightweight green painted metal base that would suspend the spiral to look like a tiny Christmas tree. Â The metal would eventually corrode, it's too light to even spotweld, JB Weld didn't take well or the spike would fall off in the soil never to be seen again. Â Over time, the lights start collecting dust and of course, I never found a replacement. Â Enter the 3D printer.
Using some large nails, I have designed this to last FAR longer. Â Plus, if it breaks, rip the nail out of the base and print a new one. Â I plan on reselling these, they are MY design and if I catch anyone using these for commercial gain I WILL pursue you. Â Feel free to print these for your personal use though. Â The prototype I show in the photos doesn't have the staggered design that I'm including here. Â The staggered design will be more stable and allow for easier assembly and less points of failure.
For each base you will need a 6 3/8" or 63mm long and 1/4" or 6.6mm diameter nail. Â Print all three parts, insert the nail in the base, insert the insert and make it flush with the base bottom, then attach the top part. Â I used CA glue to attach everything.
PS Im working on replacement star design (those blow away in the wind!) and the top insert to connect the light spiral to the base in case you lost yours.
