Description
Hi there!
This LED light bracket system for the Slash/Rustler is my creation, after many attempts at attaching lights to my Slash 4x4 from aftermarket stores. The main problem with aftermarket lights is that they are fragile and break after a few mild impacts,
the main problem being that the bracket that holds the LEDs is usually mounted to the bumper or the body, both of which take a beating in even minor crashes. If you've also been frustrated by this, you'll be happy to have found this unbreakable solution!
Therefore, I'd like to present you with my solution to these issues.
I designed a mount that is attached to the differential, moving the lights away from the bumper where they are exposed, and fastening them to a much stronger part, the differential housing.
I have printed the main bracket out of TPU, which makes it impossible to break, since it bends under impact, while sides that hold the LEDs are printed from PETG to hold up to scratching and scraping.
The holes on the side brackets are designed to take 5mm LEDs that come with a small metal housing of around 7.5mm, that can directly be fastened to the bracket. I mounted 4 white LEDs in the front and 4 red LEDs in the rear. (Link to LEDs: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007464262557.html)
Installation Bill-of-Materials
- 4 M3x20mm countersunk head screws, to mount the side brackets onto the main bracket
- 8 M3 washers to interface with the TPU better
- 4 M3 nuts to mount the side brackets
- 2 M3x22mm screws to replace the rear diff screws (where the rear bumper is mounted)
- 2 M3x25mm screws to replace the front diff screws (where the front bumper is mounted)
Installation guide
- mount the side brackets (black) to the main bracket (red TPU) with the countersunk screws, a washer and a nut on the other side. The side bracket already has a countersunk hole on the top, you will see it. Repeat twice for front and rear.
- take out the front and rear top bumper mounting screws, place the bracket and install with the new screws and washers
- install the LEDs by installing their metal barrels first, then popping them in and connecting them
Printing instructions
- Print the main bracket (red in photos) with TPU, flat with no support.
- Print the side brackets (black in photos) with any material, does not have to be flexible. I printed them with black PETG
Happy printing!
