The evolution of this tree went from plastic to wood with metal, then to wood only.
The design is for 3mm plywood (size 190 x 290mm), but the exact thickness of the material is not critical (max 3.3mm). For 4mm plywood, scale up the design to 125%. (238 x 363mm) A Lasercutter kerf of 0.1 to 0.2mm is already compensated in the drawing.
The star at the top serves as a wedge to hold the tree together. Another wedge is at the bottom of the tree. Multiple sizes of wedges are supplied, use the one that fits best. Or apply some glue.
Update 20191019: Made the stem 1mm thicker, added a version for 3.4mm plywood, Update 20191021: Connector gaps 0.35mm for the 3.2mm version. Update 20191030: version for vertical grain added. Update 20191211: changed 2.5mm slot for star to 2.3mm, added wedges 4mm and 4.2mm Update 20211109: added 4mm and 5mm versions for different sizes in the forest. Update 20211117: added a mini 3mm version, only 13cm high.
Assembly guide
All parts should remain connected to the boards. Carefully break them loose.
First click together the three parts that create the tree trunk and roots. If these have a loose fit, apply some glue to the thin ends near the tip.
The bottom plate has its holes slightly too narrow. this is intentional. With a bit of luck you get a sturdy base without any glue. Press fit the roots with gentle force.
There are two copies of each three wedges with sizes 3.4, 3.6, and 3.8mm for the bottom. Only one is used. The rest are spares.
Slide the parts numbered 1 to 9 over the top of the stem.
Take care: The upper end of the stem is delicate. Do not break it while sliding over the parts.
The star serves as a wedge for the top. There are sizes 2.5, 2.7 and 2.9mm. Use the one with the better fit. If needed cut the tip of the wedge to make it stronger.
The green tint on the photo was a photographic trick. When applying green paint, the star and the base should be excluded.
