This creature is from Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes and the Sleeping Dragon's Wake Essentials Kit and it's an Alkilith. It's like a moss / fungus that creates a portal to the Abyss and haunts folks that come nearby. This was mostly an exercise in building some walls / windowed ruin terrain and the Alkilith (despite being the reason for this model) was done afterwards.
An Alkiith is a CR11 creature and pretty beefy / nasty to fight but I think it's much more fun as a narrative / plot device. For this reason I've included the square "ruins" as well so you can pretend that they're part of a larger (non ruined) structure.
I'm exploring options for some modular inserts for this as well - you can find these exclusively on my Patreon. This way you can print the plain walls and then slot in a variety of different Alkiliths and they'll work with this style of window frame so anywhere else it's used they could pop into as well. You can find these modular variants here here: https://goto.adamnant.com/l/modular-alkilith?site=printables&model=alkilith&cta=teaser - these are a work in progress and free (for now) but I might lock them down for Patrons later so if you want them grab em while you can (or subscribe and grab them now and the extra super exclusive versions later)
You can grab some tentacles for this creature on the companion model over here or get them from the Patreon link above: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:7228452
If you like my models and that I make random minis for people then come follow and support me on Patreon https://goto.adamnant.com/l/patreon?site=printables&model=alkilith&cta=header - where you can ask me to make minis for you, get updates on my projects like gmbuddy.com and get access to exclusive minis for my Patrons.
This model was done by hand (No AI). For my process on this model my OBS was glitching out and kept freezing while I was making this so unfortunately most of the video is a silent still frame so I probably won't posting it. This work was done with simple shapes and displace modifiers to imprint in a stone texture. I think I've got a pretty good system for this now so I'll make some more of these and then hopefully can record / livestream / timelapse these things as usual.
For printing I've include a 3mf file for FDM which I used for my test prints. The standalone walls will require supports to be enabled but I printed both at 15 degrees at 0.2mm layer height and neither ended up needing any supports (aside from the brim at the bottom for stability). So these should be kinda supportless / not-supportless. The version with the alkilith will require some supports because it pops out a bit more - I would recommend printing at 0.08mm layer height to preserve as much detail as possible. You can resin print these as well but it would eat up a bit of resin in the process - it's up to you tho. Thick auto supports and a 45 degree tilt should work fine or you can try printing them upright but beware them chipping apart when removing from the plate.
I've completed my quest for 1000 models in 2025 so now I'm trying to decide whats next. You can follow along with me on Thingiverse, Printables, Cults3d or provide suggestions on Patreon here: https://goto.adamnant.com/l/patreon?site=printables&model=alkilith&cta=footer (as well as get codes for exclusive downloads on Cults3d). If you have something that you need or a custom model like this that you want then let me know and let's make it!
